SUMMER DAY CAMPS *HALF & FULL DAY*
Day Camps at Newport Sea Base are a highlight of the summer season for youth of all ages
Ages 8-10
This is the place to be for fun science, challenging activities on the water, team competitions and more.
This camp fulfills 4 Webelos electives (aquanaut, Art Explosion, Engineer, Adventure in Science), Bear's Salmon Run elective, and Wolf's Spirit of the Water.
Campers must pass the swim test on the first day.
SUMMER & SCHOOL YEAR
AQUATIC & BOATING CLASSES
Single-subject, aquatic-based/boating classes at Newport Sea Base offer children a focused learning experience on their favorite aquatic experiences!
Motor Boats
Drive a variety of motor boats while learning the boaters' "rules of the road". Practice safely fueling your boat, driving in a straight line, making right-angle turns and U-turns, anchoring, docking and more! There will be 3-4 students max per boat, with instructors nearby to provide careful supervision.
Snorkeling
Come snorkeling with the Newport Sea Base! Included are two session dates where students will learn diver safety signs, swim patterns, how to properly dive, and on-the-water rescue skills in our harbor and in the ocean. Scouts will earn a certificate and special snorkeling patch! Students must be strong swimmers and will be required to take a swim test at the start of the class. Snorkel, mask, and fins provided but wet-suits are not.
*Class will not be held at the Newport Sea Base. 1st class: The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center (Pool), 2nd class: Shaw's Cove (Laguna Beach). Staff supervision and instruction provided at all times.
Kayaking
Learn proper technique for kayak paddling and practice different strokes; play fun on-the-water games with our instructors such as kayak basketball and more! Learn parts of the boat and paddle. Capsized boat? No problem - we'll teach all participants how to right their kayak anytime, anywhere. Learn all the requirements for the Kayaking Merit Badge while paddling around beautiful Newport Harbor. Be prepared for a swimming proficiency test on the first day of class.

Fishing
Let's go fishing! Learn which equipment to use for various kinds of fish and how to best rig your tackle. We provide everything including but not limited to the boat, fishing rod, tackle, bait and the expertise to guide you to the bay's hot spots for the best catch!
NOTE: Anglers age 16 and up must carry a valid California Fishing License (Purchase online or at tackle shops; not available at Newport Sea Base).
Canoeing
Learn proper technique for canoe paddling and practice different strokes; play fun on-the-water games with our instructors. Learn parts of the boat and paddle. Capsized boat? No problem - we'll teach all participants how to right their canoe anytime, anywhere. Learn all the requirements for the Canoe Merit Badge while paddling around beautiful Newport Harbor. Be prepared for a swimming proficiency test on the first day of class.
Paddle Sport Adventure
Embark on your adventure by choosing your preferred paddle craft (Kayak or Paddle Board). Learn proper technique for paddling and practice 4 different strokes; play fun on-the-water games with our instructors. Learn parts of the boat and paddle. Distance paddle to a local beach and potentially switch boats half-way with a friend to try both paddle crafts during your outing. Staff supervision provided for all.
